His Burden is Light

This post is about the so-called War on Christmas and its apparent resolution in 2018. This is what has been said about it but I can only agree in the most limited sense, as hopefully the rest of this post will make clear. I live in Canada so my information about the States is second-hand but there's a saying here that when the US sneezes, Canada catches a cold. I believe this saying is true and it is certainly true in this instance. My experience working a retail meat counter over the Christmas season in 2018 is that something has really changed. Whereas in past years people were hesitant to say Merry Christmas, this year everyone is saying it and with a certain relish: people are delighting in the freedom they feel to say something that after all is quite ordinary and traditional: Merry Christmas! "And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen." Mark 16:20 This is one of my favourite verses because of course, it still applies today. "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works" (2 Tim 3:16-17). The scripture therefore is much more than just a historical record of what happened in those days but an instruction to us about what will happen still in these days. Luke 23:42-43 This post is about the fruit of saving faith. The thief on the cross didn't do anything to merit salvation except make a confession of faith, that Jesus is Lord, and believe that God would raise Him from the dead (Rom 10:9-10). Christ is the true sabbath and when we by faith enter into His rest we cease from our own works (Heb 4:10). What I understand this to mean is that I cease striving to be perfect, to establish myself upon a basis of righteousness by my own works. I cease from trying to justify myself because Jesus has justified me by His shed blood and resurrection from the dead. Hello again! I know I haven't properly introduced myself yet, so let me just say quickly that I am for the purposes of this blog, an evangelist. That is to say, GOD's call upon my life is to share the Gospel however I may, and since GOD does not leave His people unequipped for the task He calls them to, I have been given a number of insights into how to effectively evangelize.
